Markus chuckled softly. “I’ll gladly let you be my companion.”, he said with a smile, holding her hand to walk with her.

“Magic is like a plant.”, Markus began telling Nox then, seeing how she never learned anything any child he knew had learned. “It’s like a seed inside of you, growing with you. Changing depending on how you grow up. You can show others how your magic growth has been going as well, if you wish too.”.

Nox listened more to Markus than she did to teachers in school. What he said was fascinating to her and she nodded her understanding when he finished talking.

“So….where you’re from, magic’s seen as something good? Or at least treasured if you choose to share it with others?”

“Magic is a common thing for us. We grow up with it, and many children free their magic to use it. Magic itself isn’t something good or bad. But someone may use it to do bad things, as with all things.”, Markus replied. If he wanted to, he could use his magic for something bad as well -even if it were just plush animals, if he were to use his magic for evil, they’d turn out evil and aggressive too. Even as plush animals, they could be dangerous.

“Many would say it’s nothing to treasure, though I’d say it is. Even if everyone has it and can use it, it’s a gift. I’m very thankful for it.”.

Markus chuckled softly. “I’ll gladly let you be my companion.”, he said with a smile, holding her hand to walk with her.

Markus chuckled softly, taking Nox’s hand and shaking it lightly.
“I’m Markus. It is very nice to meet you as well.”, he replied with a smile. The cat-like plush on his shoulders waved a little as well.

“Would you like to go somewhere else to talk, Nox?”, he asked then. He wouldn’t mind staying here either, though.

Nox nodded eagerly.

“Yeah! Take me wherever.” She heard stories of folk disappearing in woodlands but they were magic stories so no one took it them seriously. “I want to travel with you and learn about magic.” She bounced on her heels, excited at the idea that she would see the world as it should be and not what she had been shrouded by.

“What about your family?”, Markus asked, though offered her a hand to take. Who was he to say no? Bringing her away from here seemed better for her, than letting her stay. He did want to know about her family though. She may not be that young anymore, but..

“I’ll gladly bring you back home. To my home. I didn’t want to stay in this country much longer anyways.”, he hummed softly.

“It’s not weird at all.”, Markus replied with a soft smile. “May I see what you’re holding for a moment? I’ll give it back shortly.”, he requested then. He wanted to see what magic it was, if he could still get traces of it to make out what it had been ones.

He would love to tell her magic was real, and that she held a growing power inside her self like everyone else did. He could imagine her magic to be smaller than it should be, just from how she was raised. Not embracing it as a part of herself. But with her positive outlook on it, he was sure it would still grow healthily.

Markus was surprised by the hug, but smiled and gently wrapped his arms around her as well.

“It’s sad how your homeland denies the existence of magic. You’re so cut off from the real world. Every human has magic inside of them, and everyone can use it, if they wish to.”, Markus spoke softly, holding Nox gently. If anyone would’ve told him there were people who denied the existence of magic, he wouldn’t have believed it.

“My plush animals come to life, but the magic eventually withers away like the flowers inside of them. No magic lasts forever. It’s why your teddy stopped moving, and feels less plush than before.”.

Nox held onto the man tighter when he said that.

“I’m sorry my countrymen don’t want to see the world for what it is” she mumbled. She looked up at him with regretful eyes. “I think we’d be a lot more at peace if we did”

Her thoughts turned to the bear in her hands. She let go of him and stared at it. “Magic withers? I hope it was happy with me. I certainly was when it danced and even though it doesn’t, I still love it very much. It’s always been with me” she smiled up at him. “Thank you for making it”

“It does. Some magic can be renewed, though mine sadly can’t.”, Markus replied softly, a light smile on his lips. He was glad that a lost plush had made someone so happy.

“Thank you for loving it. I’m very sure your teddy has been very happy.”, he said then. He may have no clue how it had gotten here, but he was certainly glad that she had found it and loved it.

Nox was reluctant to give the bear over, it had always been a comfort to her, even now but this person didn’t seem to want to do her or her bear any harm so she stood up and handed it over to him, making sure she put it in his hands since he hadn’t opened his eyes.

“Please be careful” she mumbled out of instinct.

“Thank you. Of course.”, Markus replied softly. He was mildly surprised when he felt the bear in his hands. He could feel the wilted flowers inside, making the bear appear less stuffed than when it just had been made. He wondered how one of his plushs had made it here.

“I must say, I’m surprised.”, he said, holding it back out for Nox. “It’s a plush I had made, long ago. It’s nice to know it’s loved even wilted.”, he smiled softly.

Nox’s eyes widened.

“You made this?” She gasped before gushing about how she came to have it. “I found it in this woods years and years ago. I took it home because it was so pretty and soft. I played with it every day and sometimes…..”

She lowered her head

“…..sometimes when I was alone with it, it would move” she seemed to ashamed of saying that since she was always told that it wasn’t possible. “I swear it was real. It would dance and hop around. It was amazing. It couldn’t have been my imagination If….if magic was real, it would make my little bear move, right?” She didn’t know why but she hoped the man would confirm her line of thought

“Magic is as real as the teddy your holding.”, Markus said with a smile. “It moved and danced and was your best friend.”.

He raised his hands, fingers decorated in stitches, and moved them, mouth forming silent words. Between his hands it glowed, and a small cat like plush was made. “May you be my companion and friend, lay on my shoulders and give me comfort.”, he said aloud, and the plush settled on the ground. Not a moment later, and it jumped onto Markus’ shoulders, laying down comfortably on them.

“Excuse me?”, Markus spoke up softly, walking over to Nox. His coat a soft brown colour, with intricate designs sewn into them. They resembled the ones on the girl’s teddy bear as well, as all the plush animals Markus made had the same intricate designs, in some sort.

He kept a polite distance to Nox, not wanting to bother her or make her uncomfortable.
“I just have a question for you.”, he said and smiled softly.

Nox was fully alert now to the figure in front of her. She gripped on to the bear a little tighter but politely smiled back. She took on his outfit, the brown coat looked very pretty as the sun shone onto it. She appreciated he respectful distance, at least she could run if she needed to, although she found that his eyes were closed so maybe he wasn’t that much of a danger to her.

“Um…what question would you like to ask me, mister?”

“Do you believe in magic?”, Markus asked. He was curious, as he could feel the traces of familiar magic around her, though couldn’t quite place it. It was already so faded, that he could barely tell it was there in the first place.

“I’m sorry for the weird question, but I haven’t met a single person yet who believes in it in this country.”, he explained, chuckling softly.
