“I love people coming into the forest. I don’t really show myself to them unless I have to, but it’s nice to watch them and make sure they’re safe.”, Elvin hummed, smiling. He loved every living thing a lot, and he was always very happy to see people enjoy his forest too.

“Oh! It’s going to be dark soon, we can watch the stars together!”, he smiled brightly, happy.

“Oh! That’s great news!”, Elvin was excited, Agnes was staying! “I’m really happy too! That’s great!”, he smiled brightly. She got to stay! And she could come visit him whenever she liked! He was really happy that she got to stay here, in a village nearby.

“I’m so glad I get to see you more often then!”.

Agnes nods. “I’m glad that I get to see you more often as well.” She sighs happily. She didn’t really know what she wanted to do today.

“How was your day, Elvin? Anything good to report about the forest?”

“A deer had younglings today!”, Elvin replied, smile bright and warm. “I’m very happy about that. I love seeing my friends all thriving and growing.”.
“And a few travelers passed through today. They really liked the forest too! That was also really nice. And I found a lost handkerchief, though no one seemed to have come looking for it yet.”.

He wasn’t good with saying when something happened. For once, he didn’t really know how humans measured time and perceived it, and on the other hand, were days for him as good as minutes for humans, considering how long he’s been alive.

“Have a safe trip.”, Elvin replied with a smile, watching her leave. He’d be there if she needed help, but he trusted nothing would happen. There was no one else in the forest at the moment but her after all.

He sat down at the water’s edge, dipping his feet into the clear water. He hummed, content. He looked forward to seeing her again.

A couple days later, Agnes came back. She had the biggest smile on her face. She sat down by the water, looking out over the clear body. She was irresponsibly happy right now.

She laid down and sighed happily, looking up at the clouds. It was getting dark at that point. She couldn’t wait to see the stars.

Elvin was elsewhere in the forest when Agnes stepped inside, though he noticed her entering. It was a while after Agnes had laid down that he was back at the lake, easily spotting Agnes. She happened to be close to his tree, where he usually went to to come to the lake.

“Agnes!”, he called happily, walking over to where she was. “You’re back.”, he smiled, happy to see her.

Elvin sat down next to Agnes, curiously watching her paint. It was amazing to him, how humans could create things out of nothing. Though he supposed everyone could do so, humans were just… humans were pretty amazing. Scary as well, they could be.

After a while some birds decided to come watch as well, sitting in Elvin’s branches.

Agnes checks her watch after a bit. “Oh, I need to start walking.” She cleans up her set, then tucks it back in her backpack. She stands up and sighs. “It was nice meeting you again. I’ve got a potential job offer that I need to get ready for, if I wanna stay here.”

Elvin stood up with Agnes, smiling lightly.
“Feel free to come back here whenever you like. I’d love to talk to you again.”, he said, smiling. He liked Agnes, she was nice. He hoped she could stay here, so that he could see her more often. It wasn’t a lot of the time that he let anyone see him, yet alone talk with him.

“I haven’t.”, Elvin shook his head lightly. “I’m content with just my forest, taking care of it. I know humans aren’t the best creatures I should trust, and that the world is a whole lot bigger than just these villages around us. I’m curious of the world, but content with not knowing as well.”.

He liked his forest, and he liked the villages around him. Some animals, mostly birds, kept him informed of the state of the villages sometimes. But he didn’t need to know everything.

Agnes nods. “Alright. That’s perfectly respectable.” She smiles. “Do you mind if I get back to my painting? I have to get back by three, and it’s around two.” She really wanted to finish the painting.

Maybe she could add him into the drawing. Just a silhouette, of course, but it would add a bit of charm to the painting.

“Of course! If you don’t mind me watching.”, Elvin replied and giggled softly, nodding. He liked watching her paint, it was really interesting. He himself couldn’t do something like that, or at least he didn’t have the materials he needed to do so. He liked watching her at the very least.
