“Well I’m named after the forest, not the other way around. Technically I have no name on my own, I just share it with the forest.”, Elvin started replying, not minding it in the slightest. He could understand Agnes had a lot of questions.
“I felt you were in the forest. And the birds usually help me know where exactly someone is if they need help. The snake didn’t hurt you, since the forest is calm. It’s safe. I protect everyone within it, be it animal or human. Only people with bad intentions befalls misfortune.”.

He wouldn’t have let Agnes get hurt, and if another animal would’ve had to take the snake away.

Agnes nods along to all this information. “So, you’re basically the personification of the forest? Can you leave?” He didn’t seem to know much about the world outside when they first met. “It’d be unfortunate if you couldn’t…”

She didn’t think she could live here on her own, living off the land. Not with what she knew about outside the forest.

“I wouldn’t say personification of the forest. I did start as a normal tree spirit, bound to just a single tree. But the larger the forest grew, the more protective I got of it. It just kind of happened that I’m connected to the whole forest now. I’m the forest, and the forest is me.”, Elvin explained. He still had his tree, the only tree that would be able to seriously injure or even kill him if it was damaged.

“I can’t leave the forest. I’m bound to it. In the past, I hadn’t even been able to go further but a few steps from my tree.”, he chuckled lightly. “As curious as I am about the outside world, I’m content in my forest.”.

“Why shouldn’t I have it?”, Elvin curiously looked at the pin, the two overlapping leafs of gold and silver. He liked it, just like the faint dark golden roses stitched into the edges of his greek chlamy.

“Ah. I suppose because I’m a tree spirit.”, he replied and giggled lightly. “Though I’ve grown more into a whole forest than just a single tree.”, he hummed. A whole forest deity after hundreds of years.

Agnes stared in disbelief. “You…Huh?” She was glad she had been so polite earlier. “Are you the forest deity everyone talks about?”

She was curious to know. It’s not every day you get to meet a god, and this one seemed to be kind and benevolent as well. What an amazing experience.

“I suppose so! I don’t know how many people talk about me, but I’m pretty sure the surrounding villages all know about me.”, he replied with a smile, nodding. He had watched those villages grow over the hundreds of years he and his tree were alive, doing his best to help them and keep his forest safe.

Elvin smiled at Agnes’ words. “Hello Agnes.”, he greeted her then, standing a few steps behind her. He was happy to see her again, and that she was alright. And with glasses as well! He was fine with letting her see him.

“You can indeed see all the stars at night.”, he giggled softly, smiling.

Agnes jumps slightly when she hears Elvin, turning to look at him. She smiles softly, looking a bit confused. “I’d like to see that. Are you…Elvin?” She looked at his horns, wondering quietly why they were there.

“So, this is where you live, I’m guessing? Or am I wrong?” She stands up, dusting herself off.

“I am, yes.”, he smiled. He was glad she remembered, though it would’ve been unlikely she didn’t. They just met a day before after all.
“You’re right. I live here in this forest, and most of the time am here.”, Elvin replied and nodded. He originated from here, and thus stayed here the most of his time. Though he did enjoy going through the whole forest, staying here and there. Making sure everyone was okay.

Little Sapling

“Ah. It was indeed me.”, Elvin replied, laying his hand on his chest. “The forest is me, as I am the forest. When it is hurt, I am too. Even if I can’t be seriously injured or killed unless my tree is damaged, I feel what happens to any other tree in this forest.”, he explained softly. He smiled lightly at her concern.

“I’m alright. The pain lingers, but it will fade once the tree’s resin closed the cut.”. It didn’t leave any visible marks on him, but it hurt, and the pain lingered. But he would be fine.

Nox listened carefully as Elvin talked. It was clear he was still in discomfort. They unconsciously reached for their pack to get out a blanket but realised they had left it behind. They huffed, silently kicking themselves for leaving it.

“Is there anything I can do to help you feel better?” She asked, wanting to help the deity who had once helped her.

“You already helped me. There’s nothing more really you can do.”, Elvin replied with a smile. He was glad he had met Nox properly now, she was as kind as he had always perceived her.

“Ah, you left something behind at the sapling.”, he said then, turning to look at something else. A deer was trotting into the clearing, carrying Nox’s pack. It dropped it into Elvin’s lap, and he gently pet it in return.
“Thank you very much dearest.”, he told it.
