“Yes. This is the capital.”, Markus replied and chuckled softly. He continued leading her, though slowly, so she could look around. They had left the horse behind, after Markus had made sure someone would bring it back for them.

The capital was known for a lot of people and things. The magic was clear in the air, and many things were clearly using magic to function. And sometimes, there was a person or child with one of Markus’ plush animals, and they often greeted him, and his companion.

Nox stayed close to Host, sending the magic in the air itself. It made her fingers and toes tingle. Her bear bounced on her shoulders and waved to any other plushies they saw.

It was nothing like her town, it was bright and vibrant with smiling faces greeting Host as they walked by.

“Am I dreaming?” She mumbled

“No. You’re very much awake.”, Markus replied and chuckled, smiling. He knew Nox would be a little overwhelmed, seeing so much new things around.

“We’re going to my home, alright?”, he said then, looking over to her. Some proper food would do them good though, so maybe he should treat her to something here.

Markus chuckled softly, smiling as he took the bag and pulled out a candy to eat as well. He liked candy, and he was glad Nox was sharing with him. Not that he would’ve minded if she hadn’t though.

Markus had stayed in this inn a few times before, greeting the inn keeper with a smile and a little wave. They just needed to stay the night, since they’d be leaving again in the morning. To the next town, a little bigger than this, and surely taking most of the day to get to. There was an easy way to get to the capital there as well.

The bed felt soft under Nox as she settled down for the night. She sighed in content.

“Gods this feels nice” she said as she fluffed up her pillow. Her bear nuzzled into her side and settled down too.

She looked over to Markus and smiled softly.

“Thank you for today, Markus. If this is a small place compared to yours and still has wonderful people then I can’t wait to see your home soon”

Markus chuckled softly, settling down on a bed as well.
“I’m glad. The difference is like night and day.”, he hummed. Even when just out on fields, it just felt different from Nox’s home.

The next day they spend traveling again, and Markus told Nox about the unique way to get to the capital. They wouldn’t have to go there like they were traveling now, but there was a person who could make some sort of “connection points”. It was a weird experience, considering you could go from one place to another without trouble like that.

“Oh.”, Markus chuckled lightly and nodded. He gently nudged the plush on his lap -not really resembling a specific animal in particular, but having the body of a cat, more or less, but bunny ears. It was hard to describe.

“Of course you can.”, he replied with a smile, and the plush stood from Markus’ lap to instead jump over to Nox, nudging against her.

Markus was startled by the hug, but chuckled and hugged her back softly, smiling. He was really glad she was happy here. He gently pet the teddy as well, smiling. Plushs always were so adorable.

“No. We can go to the inn and get a room.”, he replied to Nox’s question and shook his head lightly. He couldn’t wait for the next day though. Once they could finally go to his home. He needed to talk to Nox about what she wanted to do then too, though.

Markus chuckled lightly, smiling. He was glad it had worked, and that Nox was happy. He had never really tried to bring a plush back to life, after the magic had wilted.

“You don’t need to. I’m happy you’re happy.”, he replied. He was very happy he had managed to make her smile. That this had worked.

“I never tried resurrecting a plush before. I’m very happy it worked.”, he had a very special plush waiting for him, so he could try and resurrect it too.

Nox let her bear climb onto her shoulders. Once there, it nuzzled against her, indicating how much it missed her.

“I missed you too, my friend”

She stopped at stall that had an array of different coloured candies. She had candy and sweets back home but nothing like the display in front of her.

“Do you wan some candy, Markus?”

Markus hummed softly, curious about it. He liked candy quite a lot, actually.

“I’d be happy about it.”, he replied with a smile and a nod. He would be rather happy to have some candy. He hadn’t had in quite some time.

Markus waited for Nox then, wondering what she might be doing. He guessed look around, or talk to someone. Maybe even try out her magic some more, seeing how there were some plants around.

He just hummed softly as he waited.

Nox was gifted with a bunch of flowers from the vendor and had her money pushed back into her hand when she offered to pay for them. She thanked the vendor for their generosity and walked back to Markus.

She saw him smiling softly and noticed the plush was gone. She could hear delighted giggling coming from further away and saw the plush in the hands of the child that bumped into her.

“That’s a very nice thing you did for that kid, Markus” she presented the flowers to him “here, maybe you can some of these flowers for your plushs. Some of them have my own magic in them” she wondered if Markus could sense it.

“I do love to make people happy.”, Markus hummed with a smile. He liked children too, and since he shouldn’t keep too many plushs for himself, he’d rather give them away. Especially when they were already alive.

“Thank you.”, he said with a smile, taking the flowers. He could indeed feel the traces her magic had left behind. “Would you like any plush animal?”, he asked. He could make one with these flowers just for her.

Nox smiled and took out her old plush teddy that she had packed away. She handed it over to Markus.

“I know it’s a lot to ask but could you maybe give this old bear one more shot with the flowers? Or just re-stitch them a little?”

She didn’t want to betray her old plush if there was a chance of it moving again, she was a sentimental soul.

Markus was just mildly surprised by the question, but smiled softly. “I can try.”, he replied and nodded. He could understand her though.

He lifted the teddy, and it floated up a little, stitches coming undone and wilted flowers raining down. “May you be Nox’s best friend once more, dance for her and make her smile, and protect her with all your might.”, he spoke, the fresh flowers being used as stuffing this time, stems adding to the wilted flowers on the ground.

Re-stitched, the teddy looked a little different than before. A little accessoire added, but it opened its eyes again for Nox.
