“Oh.”, Markus chuckled lightly and nodded. He gently nudged the plush on his lap -not really resembling a specific animal in particular, but having the body of a cat, more or less, but bunny ears. It was hard to describe.

“Of course you can.”, he replied with a smile, and the plush stood from Markus’ lap to instead jump over to Nox, nudging against her.

“It’s my magic!”, the child proclaimed proudly, smiling widely. Their little plant was a small bush as it seemed, growing slowly but surely.

The image of the plant evaporated then, the child giggling and running off to continue playing.

Markus chuckled softly, smiling. “I knew you’d enjoy it here.”, he hummed, watching Nox with closed eyes. He was glad she was enjoying herself.

Nox watched as the child ran to catch up with their friends.

“I don’t think I ever want to leave this place” Her heart could have burst with joy at the thought of being surrounded with people who weren’t afraid to show their magic. She wanted to try hers again and glanced at a stall selling flowers. Since it was the evening, a few were wilting. Nox went up to the stall holder and took one of the dull flowers that.

“Could I-” she hesitated a little but remembered the pride of the child’s face and was emboldened “could I try something?”

“Of course young lady!”, the owner replied with a chuckle and smile. A lot of people encouraged people to use their magic, get used to it and learn more about it. It wasn’t unusual to see children and young adults practicing their magic somewhere. Depending on what the magic was, of course.

Markus was talked to by a child, enraptured by the plush. He smiled as he talked with them, and decided to give them the plush. “May they be your friend and companion, a protector.”, he spoke, and it jumped onto the child’s shoulders.

They beamed, happy, and ran off to show their new plush to everyone.

Markus was surprised to feel Nox leaning against him, but smiled softly. He didn’t mind at all, and he was glad that she trusted him to sleep. He’d wake her once they arrived in town. It would be evening by then, but not too late to go around and meet some people.

Nox woke up from the gentle nudging of Markus. She yawned and blinked at the new surroundings. It was a town she hadn’t been to before so she kept close to Markus once their horse was secure at a stable.

“Are we sleeping at an inn tonight?” She asked as they walked through.

A bed would definitely feel nice after a night on the grass but she wouldn’t protest if it wasn’t the case.

“We are.”, Markus replied with a smile and nodded. There was a little market today, which Markus led Nox to. He was sure she’d be amazed by all the difference between her homeland and his.

Everyone seemed nice, talking to each other, children running around playing and laughing. They passed two children who held their hands in front of themselves, and a wobbly image of a glowing plant was in each of theirs.

“I doubt you did.”, Markus replied softly, smiling. If it had been there all alone, he doubted someone had looked for it here. It wasn’t Nox’s fault either anyways though.

Once she started packing up, Markus stood up and his plush jumped back onto his shoulders, getting comfortable as Markus helped gather everything.

Once everything was gathered and packed up Nox jumpned onto the horse and helped Markus up. She let him take the reigns for the second day of their journey as she was intrigued at how well he could ride.

“If you need help, let me know” she said in a chirpy tone. “If I remember rightly, we should be across the country border by the end of the day and then we’ll be beyond what I know”

It was an exciting prospect for her to leave her home completely.

“It will take another day or two until we’re at my home. But we’ll be passing through a town on the way to rest for the night.”, Markus told her. Being sure she couldn’t see, he could keep his eyes open without a worry, and could see as well as any other person.

“I’m sure you’re going to love my home.”, he hummed, as he started to lead the horse. He was excited to see her excited.

Nox giggled at the nudging and started to pet the little plush, feeling the softness of it as she did. She hummed and smiled.

“They feel just like my bear did when I first found them”

She thought about that day.

“It was sitting up in a tree. I had to climb up to get it. Did you leave there?”

“I was never here before.”, Markus replied and shook his head lightly. “Normally I make plushs for anyone asking for one. Usually parents paying for their children. So someone must have brought it here, or somehow an animal snatched it and brought it here.”.

He couldn’t explain it. Somehow a plush of his had made it here, where he had never been before.

Markus was awake for a while longer, before he laid down and curled up, falling asleep after a long time. He never slept too well, though he wasn’t too sure why. He just couldn’t fall asleep easily, nor stay asleep easily. He woke up a lot during the night, and in the morning he didn’t feel very rested. But he was used to it.

Nox on the other hand had a very restful night and woke up the next morning feeling happy and looking forward to continuing their journey. She sat up and stretched out her arms, letting herself wake up at her own pace.

She turned to Markus and smiled, glad that travelling with him wasn’t a dream. “Good morning, Markus. Would like some breakfast?” She took of her blanket and put it away before getting out some food, humming happily.

Markus sat up and stretched, rubbing his eyes. His little plush, which he decided he should probably give a name, nuzzled against his chest, concerned for his bad sleeping.

“Good morning Nox.”, he replied softly, yawning. “Yeah. Just something small is enough though.”.
