“Well… the surrounding villages never hurt the forest. A lot of people believe in me, and ask me for help and such… maybe they could help.”, Elvin replied. He was sure they weren’t very happy about this forest getting hurt, so he hoped they could help protect him and this forest for the time being.

“It does seem the best option.” As he spoke, Tachigami looked out over the land. Just as expected, saplings had already sprouted nearby. Little doubt they’d take time to grow without Amaterasu physically on site, but it was a start. “You’ll need to rest in the meantime. What kind of injuries did they cause you?”

“They chopped into my tree.”, Elvin replied, motioning slightly to the tree next to them. It was the oldest one in this forest, and it almost seemed to bleed.
“It’s like being stabbed really badly… I won’t die, as my tree won’t, but it hurts..”. His dark brown cloak, hiding his clothes, hid the golden stain on his shirt and vest.

“I can try.”, Elvin replied quietly. He wasn’t sure if he could concentrate a lot, with the pain coursing through him still. But if there might be someone else who could help, he would be more than happy to try. His forest was hurting, he was hurting, and he needed any help he may be able to get.

That was good enough. Tachigami glasped his hands together, shutting his eyes. He then spoke aloud, raising his voice to the heavens.

“Mother Amaterasu, origin of all that is goo, hear our prayer. This land has been ravaged. We ask that you shine your light upon it, rejuvenate, and bring life back to these trees. Return them to their former glory!”

He opened his eyes once more, and relaxed. “Now with any luck, the process will begin soon. Though, by the scale of the damage, it may take some time.”

Elvin copied Tachigami, pleading quietly for help. He hoped someone would help him. He could take care of his forest by himself, technically. But he was hurt, and alone that needs a long time to heal. And only then he could begin to help his forest grow again. Though he was uncertain about the humans.

“But those humans will surely come back.”, he said quietly, looking up to the other.

The men talked among themselves for a moment, before deciding leaving would be the best idea. They weren’t going to go against someone -no matter how small- with such a dangerous weapon as his sword. So they let Elvin go -who dropped to the ground- and made their way out of the forest. They already had cut down a lot of trees, they could finish this another time.

Elvin curled up on the ground, gasping for breath. It hurt, he hurt, everything hurt.

Breathing a sigh of relieve, Tachigami relaxed his stance and sheathed his sword. He surveyed the damage with a disappointed expression as he made his way over to Elvin.

“They can’t give us a moment’s rest, can they?” He knelt down next to the deity. “I’m sorry I didn’t arrive sooner. Is there anything I can do?”

“Thanks for saving me.”, Elvin mumbled, looking up to the other. “I… I don’t think so..”. His tree had to heal on its own, as did he. Though he knew the pain wouldn’t leave, not with how many trees were already cut down. The pain would linger for years, he was sure of it.

Open starter ~ Forest Deity AU ~

People had found his forest. People from outside the villages, who ignored their protests. This forest was going to be cut down.

The animals all tried to resist, but they were just shot and hunted down, until none tried anymore. Until Elvin send them away. He wasn’t able to do anything, as each chop against a tree send a sharp stab of pain through him.

He was crying and screaming in pain as trees were cut down, and besides a few animals, and some birds, no one was there with him anymore. He was in so much pain he couldn’t move anymore. He laid on the ground by the lake, at his tree, and he was in so much pain constantly. Even when they stopped for a while.

And then they came to the lake. The magical charm protecting it didn’t work anymore as they all cut down the trees, and the animals left.
He tried to beg them, plead with them to just let his tree stand. But he was just held back, called a freak, and they chopped into his tree.

It bled, and Elvin screamed in agony as his very being was damaged.

Tachigami, not quite sure of where he’d wound up, was
considering returning to the heavens, when he noticed the animals of the forest
acting strangely. It was as if they were fleeing something deeper within. He
clutched the unusually small sheath attached to his hakama and proceeded with
caution.

As he moved, the sound of crying and screaming reached his
ears, and the brush god quickened his pace, until he reached a wasteland
swarmed with humans, and another being, not of the mortal realm, crying out.

Though normally hesitant to enter any confrontation,
Tachigami moved with intense speed, drawing a sword that by any normal
standards was far too large to fit into its sheath. In front of the deity’s
tree, his sword sliced the humans’ axes cleanly in two.

Elvin was sobbing, limp in the hold of the man holding him. He was in extreme pain, and he couldn’t bring himself to open his eyes again to watch what was happening. He was hurt, his cloak hiding the golden stains in his clothes, as he bled like his tree did.

The men trying to cut down the tree took startled steps back. They hadn’t cared for the reason the freak was screaming in pain, but this new little being with its unnatural large sword was scaring.
