Markus was bathing in the sun, letting his wings soak in them. He was comfortable, enjoying being lazy. He often acted as a kind of bee for the flowers as well, since a lot of pollen got stuck to him whenever he crawled into the blossoms of flowers.
He looked up when he could feel some pollen land on him, curious what was on a higher flower. He could see the magic of another fairy.
“Hello”, he greeted with a smile.

“It’s okay. It’s understandable.”, Markus replied softly. He leaned against Oliver lightly, closing his eyes.
“We’re safe here. And once the human is gone, we can go out again, and go about our day.”, he said softly, hoping to help Oliver keep calm.

Markus held Oliver’s hand and flew with him, gently leading him to a nearby try with a hole in it. It was big enough for a squirrel or two to fit inside, so more than enough room for the two fairies. Inside wasn’t really a lot, other than some acorn cups with water, and some twigs and dry leafs.

Once they were inside the tree he let go of Markus’s hand. Oliver hovered in the air instead of sitting down, flitting around nervously to relieve his anxieties about the entire situation. He eventually settled down, resting against the ’ wall ’.

Markus sat down and watched Oliver fly around nervously. He didn’t mind much, the entire situation had been kind of scary after all. Less so since Markus hadn’t been able to really spot the human, or maybe that should’ve made him more worried? He wasn’t sure.

Once Oliver sat down, he fluttered over to him, sitting down next to him.

“Alright. I’ll check if we’re safe.”, he murmured, resting on a leaf for a moment before flying upwards to check if they were safe. The field fairy stood on a flower so that he was able to see the human from a distance.

The human had a camera. At least it wasn’t a net, or a jar. But they were closer. He dived down into the foliage again.

Markus watched Oliver, worried. When he came back to him, he spoke up softly.
“We could go hide in a tree nearby. I go there during winter normally.”, he suggested softly. They should be safe there. it was higher up, and only a few animals would ever come by there.

Markus nodded, fluttering up into the air with Oliver. He didn’t mind if they left his flower field for a while, so long they were going to be safe.
“I’ll follow you.”, he told the other fairy, looking around to try and see the humans too. He always had some troubles seeing other beings, with all the natural magic in the plants in his vision.

Oliver remained relatively close to the ground, weaving around flowers to make it more difficult for the humans to see them. He glanced back over his shoulder constantly to make sure that Markus was still following him.

“If you need me to slow down, just tell me.”, he told him, remaining near the flowers. They were a good place to hide.

Markus didn’t have a lot of troubles following Oliver. His magic was easy to track between the flowers, since it was still more foreign to him, unlike his flowers he had lived around for so long.

“It’s fine.”, he replied softly, following behind Oliver.

He scanned the area briefly. It didn’t look like the human was coming any closer, and they hadn’t brought any of their offspring with them. Human children had a tendency to go ’ bug hunting ’ which occasionally resulted in a few glamoured fairies getting caught in their jars as well.

“Sorry, I– I saw a human over there, and I don’t have the best experiences with them.”, he murmured, “Most of my hive was captured to work in the human’s artificial hives. They bought into our glamour a little too much.”

“Oh. Maybe we should go somewhere else?”, Markus had no experience with humans, he barely knew anything about them actually, but he knew they were very bad creatures. He had been taught when he had been a child himself, of the dangers humans presented.

He could understand Oliver’s fear though, even if he didn’t have any experience with them himself.

“Well, we raise them for a while, until they’re independent enough to look after themselves. Sometimes they stay where they had been born, a lot of the time they leave to find a new place.”, Markus replied and shrugged lightly.
“I did have children before myself, but none ever wanted to stay. That had been mostly before I lived alone, though.”.

“I’ve… never had any.”, he admitted with a shrug. It wasn’t because he was too young to bear any offspring, he just… hadn’t. It wasn’t an issue for him at all, at least while he wasn’t in heat. They were almost painful when he was.

Oliver flinched when he noticed a human nearby. It didn’t look like they were planning on catching them, so he didn’t say anything. He only raised his head to make sure that they were safe.

Markus nodded lightly. He was aware that there were fairy kinds who mated for life too, so they wouldn’t have a lot of offspring. It would’ve been weirder for Markus to hear Oliver had no offspring if he were a flower fairy.

“Why did you flinch?”, he asked then, having noticed, with how they were resting on each other. He wasn’t paying a lot of attention on his surroundings, so he didn’t see it.

Oliver listened to him intently, hesitantly moving his hand to lace their fingers together. He tried not to feel sorry for him but he had always been around other fairies. It was difficult to imagine anything different.

“But that might not be ’ different ’ in a bad way.”, he attempted to reassure him, “Like… us. Talking with you is different from talking with the others from my hive.”

Markus lightly squeezed Oliver’s hand. He was afraid of approaching anyone to stay with him. To look after his flower field together with him. He couldn’t imagine himself finding someone like that. If anyone would come looking for a place to live, he would never turn them away, but…

“I don’t know. Maybe some time.”, he mumbled. He could just as well ask Oliver to stay, but he didn’t know a lot about his kind and if he would even want that.
