insanity-is-spreading:

Enyo hoped and prayed that if Markus was here there would be a way for him to know, maybe he would cry out or anything. He needed something.

He checked everything thrice over. Every little thing was checked again and again just to make sure he hadn’t missed anything. He was clearly grasping at straws now. His anxieties swelled as his confidence dwindled. Markus… Wasn’t here. He- he wasn’t here. He wasn’t… Anywhere. He didn’t know anywhere else that needed checking.

Enyo paused when it became obvious he was panicking, nails digging into his arms. He was wrong. He was in the wrong again. Markus was gone. He was gone and it was his fault.

“M-my greatest apologies.” He whispered his voice sounding strained as tears clouded his vision.

Markus had heard Enyo. He had heard him talking, even when someone grabbed the barrel he was in. There was just one thing he could hope to do, thanking the heavens he liked his sleeves long enough to almost cover his entire palms. Twisting his hands in the tight binding of the ropes, managing to pull one of his cufflinks off the sleeve. There was a small hole in the barrel, his only sign of sunlight and fresh air, and when his barrel was tipped over -almost making him drop his cufflink from the sudden change, he managed to drop it through the hole outside, before being rolled away.

Enyo’s voice faded, as did the captains, and Markus could only pray that Enyo would find the little golden cufflink, with amethysts on them -his birthstone.
