On the corner of the street was a cardboard box. “TAKE ME” was written with black marker onto it. Inside was a small neko, either rather young or just small for its age. His fur brown, with blond spots in it, and clothes already a little ragged.
He laid curled up, not wanting for anyone to pay attention to him, even though he’d die alone out here. He was afraid of people, and what they could do to him.

Host yelped when he was picked up, freezing up. Ears flat against his head and his tail wrapped tightly around himself.
“I- I- I’m- s-so-rry.”, he was terrified, trembling in Ray’s hands. Ray must be mad at him now, any moment he’ll yell at him or hurt him in some way. Maybe he’d throw him against a wall, or maybe squeeze him until it left bruises or-

His mind came up with dozen of possibilities, all ending in a lot of pain for the little neko.

„You don’t have to be scared of me. I was just really scared that I couldn’t find and that you got hurt.“he said softly and looked at him.

„i Don’t wanna hurt you dear, I wanna take care of you…I know you had been hurt and mistreated and I want you to be happy again.“.he said softly.

„I promise I won’t force anything on you and I won‘t let anyone hurt you.“he said softly

Host could barely listen. Fear was rushing through him, and he just silently nodded along. Because agreeing was the best thing to do in most situations.

“I- I’m sorry I w-was- I was hiding- I won’t again- plea-se..”, he was terrified still, obviously so. Some words meant nothing to him, lies were so easily told and wrapped in nice tones and gentle words. Ray could promise him anything and Host couldn’t believe him.

Host listened silently to Ray, just waiting for him to get mad and yell, or to grab him out of his box, or something else equally bad. Nothing of the sort happened, and Ray left again.

Host scooted in a corner of his box, trying to get away from the smell of catnip. He could smell it somewhat, and he was anything else but happy. He hated catnip, it was a terrible drug for him. It had similar affects to nekos as it did for cats -wanting to play with it and get close to the scent, before it was calming. It lasted for ten minutes, and they were immune to the scent for half an hour.

The calming effect had been used on Host a lot before, since all fight left him with it. So he wanted to get away from the catnip toy, even though he was still in his box and unwilling to leave.

After some moments Ray moved to the living room to get some paper to write. He sighed as he looked at the toys. He took the ones that seem to harsh and the one with catnip leaving out of soft materials for Host. He wanted to be a good owner but he knew he had to be patient with the poor neko. He didn’t want to scare him so he took everything slow for him. He just hoped the other could trust him.

The demon than moved back to his work room moving back to completing some paperd for his boss

@emptynarration

Host tensed when he heard Ray again, but relaxed when he left again, and the smell of catnip faded. It was better this way, but he was still afraid.

After a while, he carefully crawled out of his box, leaving the blanket behind. He had to find a hiding spot. Somewhere he could feel safe, somewhere Ray wouldn’t find him. It was hard to find anywhere being blind, but it was necessary. He’d feel safer if he could hide.

The blanket under which Host laid twitched when Ray talked to him, but Host stayed quiet and still otherwise. He could smell the fresh food, and he knew the other meal was still there, and the clothes must be too. He wanted to be safe and happy, but he didn’t trust anything.

He listened to Ray leave the room again. He moved a minute later, laying his hands on the edge of the box and peeking over it -though his blind eyes didn’t see anything. The blanket was still on his head, but he was very much visible.

Ray soon made his own breakfast and started to work on his things. He wanted to let the small neko get used to the place and be comfortable. He knew he had some toys around and unaware that one had some cat nip inside that could perhaps affect nekos. But the demon didn’t seem to have noticed that forgetting about it and wel continued to eat and do some work listening to a soft tune in the background.

@emptynarration

Host stayed put for a while, just listening to Ray. But he wasn’t coming back to him, and pretty much ignored his existence. That was good! Host carefully tried to reach anything on the ground, finding the clothes first. He pulled them into his box, before reaching for the food. He couldn’t grab the plate without getting out of his box, but he managed to get some bacon into his claws, which he very happily ate. His claws needed to be clipped again.

He waited a while more, and when nothing continued to happen, he changed his clothes. It felt a lot better than his old clothes, which he disregarded outside of his box. He did stay hidden underneath his blanket inside his box though.

Host stayed right where he was. He couldn’t trust Ray. Ray was a complete stranger to him, and he couldn’t know what he was supposed to believe and what not. He’d been used as so many different things before, he was afraid of the simplest things. It had been all his life, after all. There was no one he could trust -or at least no one he had met yet.

The inside of his box slowly did warm up thanks to the blanket covering it, and some time he did stop shivering. He could barely sleep.

Ray went to sleep as he felt into slumber slowly.He did worry about the small neko that had been mistreated. He hoped he could make him comfortable here slowly and make sure that he would be able to trust him. With those ideas he slept through the night. In the morning he slowly woke up and yawned slightly floofing his hair

@emptynarration

Host was awake early in the morning. He was so used to being up really early, he wasn’t able to sleep even if he tried. He had gotten a bit of rest, but most of his sleep had been plagued by nightmares, and him waking up unable to sleep again.

Eventually he had pulled down the blanket from the top of the box, feeling a bit warmer with it, and like he could hide.

Host listened quietly to what Ray was doing. Clothes? To keep him warm? He didn’t trust it, but he could check it out, right? Maybe Ray would make him do something to keep the clothes. To deserve them somehow. Maybe he wasn’t going to make him anything proper, or even edible to eat..

He still got up on his knees though to reach out and feel for the clothes, making a soft sound when he felt them. They felt like normal, proper clothes, that would keep him warm. He pulled his hand back, curling up on the ground again. He didn’t want to have to do anything to get them.

Ray came back humming with a plate of warm food rice and some chicken. He frowned as he saw that the clothes didn’t seem to be touched. He put the plate next to the box. „Little guy if you don’t like the clothes you don’t have to wear them. I want them to keep you warm but I‘ll bring you a blanket.“he said softly and got up again to get a soft blanket. „You can start to eat. I made some rice and chicken.“he said softly and then moved to get the blanket

@emptynarration

Host was afraid. Anything he did could be wrong. Was Ray mad at him now? Because he hadn’t taken the clothes? Should he have taken them? Was he going to be hurt because he didn’t wear the clothes?

He curled up tightly, hiding his head underneath his arms, as if that helped in any way. He was afraid to move, to take the food, no matter how good it smelled like.
