Markus was bathing in the sun, letting his wings soak in them. He was comfortable, enjoying being lazy. He often acted as a kind of bee for the flowers as well, since a lot of pollen got stuck to him whenever he crawled into the blossoms of flowers.
He looked up when he could feel some pollen land on him, curious what was on a higher flower. He could see the magic of another fairy.
“Hello”, he greeted with a smile.

“That’s perfectly fine.”, Markus replied with a smile. He moved to be behind Oliver, wrapping his arms around the other and holding him close. He was very happy to be able to hold him.

“I’m very glad we’re not by ourselves.”, he murmured. He would be a lot more scared if he were alone here, or if he was still free but Oliver was gone.

Markus noticed when the light faded, whimpering softly. He didn’t want to sit in the dark. He hoped he would be treated alright, that they both would be. He didn’t want to wither and wilt, to die slowly of a lack of magic.

“We’re– we’re going to be okay.”, he murmured, still holding onto the mesh. He eventually let go of it to curl up again, only to fall backwards when it was lifted away. It was difficult to see anything, and the lack of light was slowly tricking his body into becoming tired.

Markus nodded lightly. They would be fine.

He squeaked when the mesh was lifted, having to pull his hand away quickly to not get caught and lifted up with it.

He looked over to Oliver, and scooted a little closer, reaching a hand out towards the other. He wanted to be close to Oliver, and not be alone. Even in this darkness -which didn’t much bother Markus, considering his blindness- didn’t do much of anything to him.

“I’ll be there for you no matter what. I wouldn’t be bothered mating with you, forced or not.”, Markus said softly. He noticed Oliver’s hand on the mesh, and laid his hand over the other’s.

“You’re just amazing.”, he mumbled.

Oliver smiled at him. The expression was bittersweet, though. His heat had barely begun and he was already aching to touch him. It hurt that he was unable to even hold his hand. “Thank you so much, Markus.”, he murmured.

“Of course.”, Markus smiled softly at Oliver. He was very glad Oliver didn’t mind, and that he seemed better than earlier. Less panicked. It was a lot nicer like this, even if their situation hadn’t changed.

The field fairy bit his lip at the idea that Markus would even consider it. Not that he hadn’t. Fae of his kind didn’t mate for life, but most of them only took a single mate each year. He smiled at the thought of being with Markus. Markus wouldn’t leave him, even if he could.

“Would he let us go afterwards?”, Oliver asked, although it was unlikely to be true. Why would a human require that from them? He could think of a few reasons, none of which were appealing to him. “Even if he wouldn’t, my heats become rather painful.”

Markus frowned lightly. He had never gone through a heat before, and he just got really desperate and hot when he was in heat. Like a flower in full bloom, his whole body glowing softly, face flushed, smelling strongly of roses. It was never hard to find a mate then, with his body screaming he was ready to mate.

“Even if he won’t, I’ll still be here.”, Markus hummed with a smile, looking at Oliver.

“Oh.”, Markus nodded lightly. Feeling the coat, he smiled softly, standing up to pull it on. He felt a lot better with it on.
“You can just mate like that with every fairy?”, he asked, curious. With any fairy who chose to bear children, he supposed. He would guess flower fairies would be more or less common to mate with then, since their way of mating also was kind of like exchanging pollen. Though flower fairies just produced them naturally on their skin, but only really notable when in heat.

Oliver nodded. It was rather common for field fairies to inter – breed, almost as much as flower fairies, but fae of Oliver’s specific species didn’t do so often. They stuck to themselves; there definitely was enough of them to do that without any issues.

“Yes, and it goes both ways. I could either have their children or they could have mine. We’re… adaptable, in that way.”, he murmured, a hint of yellow dusting spreading over his face. “Why do you ask? J-just… curious?”

“Mostly!”, Markus replied with a smile and nodded. “Flower fairies don’t tend to mate with other kinds, as far as I know. Since we excrete pollen during our heats, and need those to mate. But I guess we could mate too, in this case.”, he explained, smile soft. He wouldn’t mind mating with Oliver, though he wasn’t aware how Oliver’s kind treated mating. He wouldn’t think for life, since not many fairy kinds did, but he didn’t know.

“Maybe the human wants us to mate?”, he wondered quietly. The human probably didn’t know what kind Markus was, but must think a rare one, because of his wings. Who knew?

“Do you want me t-to lend you my clothes? I have another layer on, it’s fine.”, Oliver offered, glancing away from him in case looking at him was an issue for his friend. “It’s the best I can do, for now.”

Oliver noticed that Markus didn’t know about the pollen, or why he was so nervous about it. “T-the pollen’s mine. That’s why I had the gloves.”

“Well I could guess they were yours.”, Markus said and chuckled softly. He tried to not think about their situation too much.
“Why did you have to wear gloves? Because of the stains?”, he asked, curious. He wondered about it! It probably wasn’t because of the stains, but still. Could be!

“Would there even be a way for you to give me clothes?”, he asked then, frowning a little. He would like some pants, at the very least. Or a coat.

“We can just wait.”, Markus replied softly. What else could they do? They had no power here, surrounded by glass and a mesh divider. He hoped they would be allowed to be together soon, he didn’t like being alone like this. Caged and trapped. Even if they had room to fly around in, he wasn’t happy being so close to Oliver, but unable to be truly close.

Oliver held his hand up and closed his fingers around the mesh. A small amount of gold – coloured pollen was left behind. He apologised for it and wiped it off. It wasn’t glowing like it would be within a few days. It would have no effect on Markus but he didn’t want to risk it. Markus was his friend, but he wasn’t his.

Markus could spot the pollen, barely, though he didn’t know their meaning. He had no clue what Oliver’s purpose was, if he was honest, and what exactly he did.

Markus had pulled his hand back from the mesh, to instead wrap them around his legs. He didn’t like being in just his shirt. Not when he didn’t want to be. And he wanted nothing more than his clothes back, or some flowers to make new ones.
