Markus nodded lightly. He would like to just spend time with her, and not worry about anything else. He was glad today wasnât a very busy day for him, so he could really just spend it with Eve.
âDo you want to eat something too?â, he asked softly, letting go of Eve so he could look at her. He could barely see anything, other than some colours, shapes and smudges that made her up.
He couldnât see the little cuts, or the little scar, or anything. It was hard to even make her eyes out.
Markus let himself cry finally. He nodded weakly at her promise, clinging to her. Maybe he wouldnât be alone anymore, and maybe he wouldnât have to pretend to be strong and confident all the time anymore.
He followed her advise, as he always did. He had never had too many problems with panic attacks before, since there never had been any reason to be worried about anything. He was the youngest son, not supposed to be the heir of the throne, and just be happy in life. And then all this had happened.
He slowly calmed down again, mostly forcing himself to calm. He needed to be, he had to be. He let go of Eve once he had calmed down again.
âIâm sorry.â, he said softly, rubbing his eyes. It had been six months since he thought he had lost her, and over a year since he had least seen her. And almost four years since his parents had been killed. He was still pretty much a child -barely nineteen- but forced to be an adult. A king.Eve smiled softly, knowing it wasnât that easy. She lost her parents, and was still really sore about the whole thing. If she thought about it too much sheâd start crying and hyperventilating, but she had to be strong. She set her hands on his face.
âLook how strong youâre being, Markus you really are fantastic. I know it still hurts, no need to pretend with me. But, I know you have to be strong for your kingdom. Iâm so proud of you, and I bet your parents are as well.â She kissed his cheek and smiled brightly. Eve was eighteen, barely. She had her birthday merely a week before the attack, and was lucky to even get out there alive and unnoticed. She held his hands looking up into his eyes.Â
âI hope its okay with you, but I havenât had a proper bath in ages. Would it be alright if I go and take one? Iâd love to talk more once Iâm clean, though~! You know Iâd never want to leave my best friend~!â She hugged him again, nuzzling him and smiling.
Markus looked at her as she cupped his cheeks, listening silently. He couldnât help but tear up again at her words. No one ever told him. That he was strong, or that they were proud of him. That his parents would be.Â
He tried to blink the tears away, just managing to make hem roll down his cheeks.
âOf course.â, he said, managing to keep his voice even. He rubbed his eyes dry again, taking a deep breath. He couldnât help it, he was too used to pretend to be strong.
He hugged her back again, nuzzling against her shoulder. âDo you need clothes?â, he asked quietly. wanting her to be as comfortable as possible.
Markus let himself cry finally. He nodded weakly at her promise, clinging to her. Maybe he wouldnât be alone anymore, and maybe he wouldnât have to pretend to be strong and confident all the time anymore.

Markus hugged her back, just as tightly. He was so so glad she was alive, and here, and okay. Even if they met under bad circumstances.
âSheâs the princess of Elysium. Give her her belongings back. Sheâll be staying here, and be treated as the royal she is.â, Markus answered the guard, not wanting to let go of her either. He was incredibly relived that she was alive. He knew her kingdom was still gone, taken over by someone else, of those who had destroyed it -which had caused him to cease any interactions with that region all together- but at least she was okay.
The guards nodded, going through their pockets and coats and pulling out the âevidenceâ they were going to put in the evidence room. Eve took them back and pocketed them, except for the necklace she carefully put back on and mumbled something to herself. Looking back to Markus she smiled softly.Â
âIâm sorry if I scared you, I couldnât send a letter in time. And I was worried what would happen if the perpetrators found out I was still alive before I could make it here.â She hugged him again, finding herself smiling.Â
âAlso sorry, I think I got some dirt on your clothes.â She mumbled, seeing the dust on her now on him. She giggled a bit.Â
Markus smiled softly as he watched her, before sending a stern gaze at the guards. âYou are not supposed to act like this, and you know it. You will not be patrolling in town again for a while.â, he told them. âGo see sir William.â.
He waved them away, before turning back to Eve, gladly hugging her back and holding tightly onto her.
âI donât care about some dirt if I get to hold onto you.â, he said softly. âI was more than scared. I was mourning you and your family.â, he mumbled, holding onto her tightly, face buried in her shoulder. He didnât want to cry, though couldnât help the tears in his eyes.

Markusâ kingdom was mostly accessed via the sea. It was surrounded by mountains, which were hard to travel through. There were a few travel routes, which were well protected. Since the royal family of the kingdom had always been rather kind and very open-minded and accepting, often times people fled here. Either to find a new life, or to hide from something they did.
The death of the king and queen -murder- had weighed heavily on the kingdom. Especially since the oldest son, Arthur, hadnât wanted the throne. Instead, he left the kingdom, never to be seen again. Leaving his sick, younger brother alone. Markus had been far too young to take over the throne, and had no experience at all. He hadnât been supposed to take the throne.
But that was a few years ago. Markus was still too young to be a king, but there was nothing anyone could do. He was as kind as his parents had been, but was very forgiving. He had learned to be stern and strict when need be, and he didnât allow any terrible crimes to be committed without proper punishment.
Which was the reason why a thief was brought before the throne, while Markus had been holding court -listening to the folk that wanted to speak to him, and make decisions. It wasnât that rare for it to happen, though Markus never saw a reason to really punish them. He rather helped them to stop stealing.
âThis young maiden had been found with royal jewels, and when investigating further they found her carrying a bag of jewels, a beautiful expensive necklace, and a royal crest made of silver and ruby.â The guard explained what they had found. A hooded, what looked like a begger, stood bound by chains and guards on both sides of her. The hood covered her face or really any distinct features, besides her mouth which showed irritation. While the guard continued talking, making her seem to be a truly horrible thief, she seemed to be losing her patience.
âURGGGHHAAAAAAHHH!â She let out an annoyed noise cutting off the guard.
âI ALREADY TOLD YOU A HUNDRED TIMES! I DID NOT STEAL THOSE JEWELS! THEY WERE MINE, AND YOU STOLE THEM FROM ME FOR YOUR LITTLE INVESTIGATION!â
âQuiet you insolent-â The woman swung her head back to let the hood fall back over her head, dark locks falling from the cloth and brightly colored eyes. She looked towards the guard angrily, and then looked to Marcus.
âI did not steal those jewels, they were mine from my family! My family was the kingdom of Elysium! That is the only thing I have left of my family!â The kingdom of Elysium was a close friend with this kingdom, often took trips over to each other to speak deals and other matters personally, but as of six months ago, the entire kingdom was burned to the ground, and the royal family was found dead inside. This woman looked familiar, but most were unable to figure out from where.
Markus visibly flinched when the young woman yelled, trying his hardest not to cower in his seat. So he just stayed silent, listening to her. He waited until she finally fell silent again, taking deep steadying breaths.
Of course he knew the kingdom of Elysium. He had loved visiting it with his parents, though he had only been there once in the past three years, since he had become king. He didnât want to leave the kingdom a lot, not wanting to leave it alone for too long. But he had missed his friends he had made there.
When he had heard the kingdom had been overrun and the royal family been found dead, he had been depressed for quite a while. Sure he hadnât seen them much at all anymore, but they had been very understanding. He was stressed and under a lot of pressure after all.
He stood up when the room was finally silent again. âUnchain her at once.â, he said, stepping down and close to her.
âIâm sorry they did this to you. But Iâm so so glad youâre alive.â, he said, recognizing her. Even if he couldnât see properly -an accident when he had been a child left him only able to see some shapes and colours- he knew who she was. They had been friends after all.

Eve was making some tea for Host, having been coming over more frequently. Humming to herself while pouring the hot water into the cup she felt a strangeness to the house. She didnât know why, but the vibe of the house had been changing. It felt..off. Like something was bound to happen, but what she had no idea. Gently taking Hostâs cup in her hand she walked out of the kitchen. âTea is ready, Host.â She set it down in front of him and noticed he was touching his bandaged eyes. âHost? Is something the matter?â
Host barely was aware of what was going on. He remembered things, two lifes in one, and it was too much for his mind to handle. He didnât know what was supposed and what was supposed to be forgotten. Something had merged him with another version of himself, giving him another set of memories that differed widely from his own, but also not that much. The really hurtful different memories regarded pretty much everything from when he had been shot.
âWhy… why I am I still here?â, his voice was quiet, echoing slightly, but desperate to know what was real. He had died. He remembered being dead. And it hurt, it confused him, and made him pretty much fully unaware of his surroundings.
