Open starter ~ Fairy AU

Markus had just been resting on a flower. Like he always did! He was a flower fairy after all, barely a tenth of an inch tall. He loved feeling the sun on his wings, making them shimmer and spark.

He was rare for his kind, though. His wings weren’t like any other flower fairy’s wings, and he had more, and stronger, magic than other fairies. His wings were pure golden, with intricate swirls on them. They made him stand out a lot, and other fairies treated him differently because of it.

Normally, no humans came here to this flower field. It had happened before that some humans with cameras came, but they never bothered the fairy -glamoured as a butterfly. Markus had never had any real trouble with humans before, which was nice.

But suddenly a net came down and he yelped, struggling as the tightly knit net held him imprisoned. A human grabbed for him, making Markus cry out in pain as his delicate body was nearly crushed. He was dropped in a jar, wings getting cramped, and -a cork was put in it.

As soon as Markus noticed, he started panicking. He would suffocate! This was a solid glass jar, with a cork securely holding it. He screamed, fists banging against the glass, yet his voice was far too small to be heard. Or maybe, the glass was enchanted, so that no magic could travel through it.

It didn’t matter, because Markus was terrified for his life.

Anti- or Cian, as he was currently known as- had come to this area a long time ago. It was rich with magic, and the humans always fell for his tricks. His demonic abilities were always passed off as normal magic if anyone found out, and humans didn’t know any better. He had made friends with some of them, the ones he deemed harmless to him and the other magical beings residing here. Except for one, apparently.

Anti stood in the doorway, arms crossed, talking with his recently turned dangerous friend, unable to help glancing at the fairy trapped in the jar. The jar was enchanted, that much was evident, since he could see the fairy screaming and couldn’t hear a thing, even with his enhanced hearing. His “friend” was babbling something about high magic concentration and how much money they could get for it- it made Anti’s stomach curl. When Anti questioned why they had to suffocate him, she just said that someone had told her it was the easiest way to kill them before ripping their wings out.

As she continued talking about the enchantments she had used on the jar and table and such- the jar couldn’t be broken, cork couldn’t be removed, the fairy’s abilities were all cut off, etc. Anti was already thinking of something else. Clearly, it was time to leave. It wasn’t safe here anymore. But first, he had to safe this fairy before it suffocated. Which would take a little bit, since the jar was rather large, so he could come back later, after his friend was gone.

Markus had given up on screaming after a while, knowing it would just use up more air than he could spare to use. And since he was finally calmed down, he noticed the glass was enchanted. He couldn’t see even the tiniest bit of magic, making his world pitch black. He couldn’t hate being blind more than now.

He could hear the human who had caught him talking, though he couldn’t understand what he was talking about. He was cowering in the jar, feeling trapped. He couldn’t even move his wings properly here, and he was already the smallest fairy kind.

He was glad he didn’t get his wings ripped out just like that, though he was pretty sure he was going to die either way. At least suffocating would be less painful than getting his wings ripped out, he assumed. Though he wouldn’t be able to guess the reason why he was being suffocated either.
