Title: Wrong

He was awake far before his alarm was set to go off, though he wasn’t sure why.

Something was wrong. Something was off.

“The Host listens.” But there was no other sound besides his narrations. No other sound besides his own breathing, besides the hammering of his heart, too loud in his ears.

“The Host reaches for Edward.” He rolled over, reaching a hand out, expecting to touch warmth, expecting to be able to draw his husband close, expecting to feel gentle lips on his forehead. But all he found was emptiness and cold.

He withdrew, rolled back over, cursing himself. It was out of habit. He should’ve remembered Edward was long gone.
