There was a group of people out to catch the forest’s deity. They had heard about it, and they were specialized to capture otherworldly creatures. It wasn’t hard to get through the charm that protected the heart of the forest, where the forest deity resided.
They easily overpowered the small deity, putting a magical collar around its neck to keep its powers from working. They cut down its tree, uncaring about the deity’s screams of pain. Uncaring about the amber coloured blood that poured out of the tree, and soaked into the deity’s clothes as it was injured.
They cut the tree down almost completely, down to only a single branch. The deity had fainted from the overwhelming pain. They uprooted the stump, which was now a rather easy task, seeing how the once tree was only a branch.
As this group always did, they sold the creatures they captured. And so was this deity also sold, to whoever wanted to plant a tree and have its spirit. They weren’t surprised when the deity shed its branches, like antlers, and only small stumps were left. As if he was nothing. Which, now, he was. Just a tree spirit.
