“I don’t know. Maybe you’d find someone you want to stay with. Maybe you’d find something else you’d like doing.”, Markus hummed, smiling lightly. “I hope if you do find someone one day, if you want to have someone that is, that they’ll happily be willing to wait for you as you travel.”.

He was very happy he got to travel with Oliver. He knew he couldn’t always travel like Oliver did, he was king, and had to stay in his castle most of the time. He wondered if Oliver would really never want to stay in one place.

The thought of ‘ finding somebody ‘ hadn’t occurred to Oliver. There had been a few people that had brought it up to him, but he hadn’t considered it as an option. But Markus made him consider it.

“Maybe. I don’t think anyone would want me to stay with them for too long, though. Most people, at least.”

“Well, I at least want you to stay with me as we travel.”, Markus said and giggled softly. “I’d never force you to do anything you wouldn’t want. Not that I think you’d want to stay in Elysium.”, he hummed. Oliver hadn’t seemed like he wanted to stay there, hadn’t he even mentioned he had been there before?

“But we’re traveling for now, so no reason to worry about it, right?”, he said and smiled at Oliver.

“I’d like to go to the fields!”, Markus replied with a bright smile. He also didn’t want to be on any boats for quite a long time if he could. But fields, they sounded the best. He was afraid a forest would be too dimly lit for him, and mountains made him think of the border of his kingdom -surrounded by mountains. So fields sounded like a dream.

“I’ll feel like I’ve been everywhere at the very least!”, he replied with a bright smile and happy giggle. He knew he couldn’t go everywhere, but so many places he’s never been to!

He had been traveling with his brothers since he was a young child; he couldn’t remember anything clearly from before he had started. Oliver was glad that Markus seemed to like the idea of it. Traveling alone was one thing but he missed the company.

“…years. I think I was about six when we started moving from place to place.”

“Wow.”, Markus was a little amazed. How could someone be traveling for all their life? He couldn’t imagine how that must have been like, though he could somewhat understand that Oliver felt trapped if he stayed in one place for long. He wasn’t used to that.

“Do you think you’ll ever settle down somewhere?”, he asked then, curious. Maybe Oliver did think about such things! He was very curious.

Markus hummed lightly. He couldn’t help but be afraid. He was the last in the family, since no one knew where his brother was. And he really didn’t want to be hated or anything.

“Alright.”, he smiled and nodded. That was probably for the best. Markus was still new to traveling after all, and he himself wasn’t sure on how much he could walk before getting tired either.

It was odd to him that anyone would care about the opinions of strangers. The only people that Oliver cared about were his brothers. Perhaps Markus could also be added to that list, though.

“I have everything we need.”, he told him as they walked, “We’ll have to set up a camp somewhere once we become exhausted, but it’ll only be temporary.”

“Mhhm!”, Markus hummed with a smile and nodded. He was very excited to finally be traveling. Sure nothing would probably happen, or nothing big, but he wanted to see the world, and finally was going to. That alone made him very happy.

“How long have you been traveling?”, he asked Oliver then, curious.

Fields were easier to hunt in, although it was usually small animals instead of fruit. They are less sheltered, and offered little protection if they were stuck outside in the rain. But Oliver didn’t mind.

“You really haven’t travelled much, have you?”, he asked. He had thought that royalty visited other kingdoms often. But they tended to travel to cities and other castles, not the countryside that he tended to stay in when he couldn’t go anywhere else.

“Not really no. When I was a young child I sometimes traveled with my brother, but that’s so long ago already. And since becoming king, I’ve been afraid to leave the kingdom.”, Markus replied. He would’ve loved to travel, but he had been afraid something could happen to the kingdom while he was away and he’d be blamed for it.

“Maybe it’d be best if you decide where we go?”, he hummed, smiling lightly. He really didn’t mind.

In the next few days, Markus’ health got gradually better. He felt okay to leave quickly, though mostly since he didn’t want to stretch their stay here longer than they had to, since he still worried about Oliver’s comfort of staying in one place too long. But alas, they stayed, until the doctor said that Markus was okay to travel.

Markus was more than happy that they could finally go. He would love to go travel finally!

“Ready to leave?”, he asked with a bright smile, holding onto his bag. He had grown restless in the past few days but he seemed much happier now that they were going back to what he was accustomed to. “You can choose where we go, and we can go anywhere.”

Oliver offered his hand to Markus without thinking why, humming softly while he opened the door and stepped out into the sunlight.

“Yes!”, Markus replied, more than happy. With the sun shining bright, he saw pretty okay, at least to what he was used to. So he noticed Oliver’s offered hand and happily grabbed it, stepping outside with him.

“I want to go everywhere!”, he said and laughed softly. He was clearly very excited. “I don’t mind, as long as we’re going.”, he smiled brightly.

“No, thank you.”, Markus mumbled. He was getting tired already, being sick was exhausting. He was sure he could easily sleep through most of the days until he felt better.

He yawned, hugging the blanket close to himself as he fell asleep again.

Oliver left their temporary accommodation – he couldn’t bring himself to call it a home. They were situated close to the market, which only seemed to close overnight. He approached various stalls and bought a few things. Food, fresh water, additional clothes for Markus and himself, blankets, herbs. Basic traveling items.

He returned quietly, placing down his full bag and sitting down. If Markus was asleep, there was no point in waking him up.

Markus was still sleeping, comfortable here in the bed. He did wake up sometimes, but easily continued sleeping. He didn’t notice when Oliver came back, though he wasn’t bothered by him not being here.
