Markus wasn’t the happiest being king. He had been forced to, so he was still very young for a king. But even though, he was as king and open-minded as his parents had been, before their passing. Only really his older brother danced out of line -which was part reason why he hadn’t became king, but left the kingdom with Markus on his own.

He smiled lightly at Oliver, knowing why he was here. He wasn’t sure what to do with him, though. His adviser had suggested he’d take a personal servant on, though he wasn’t sure he liked the idea. But what else to do?

“Good day, sir Oliver.”, Markus greeted the other. He had been informed of him, knew of his family.

“I would greatly enjoy it if you did.”, he replied with a smile and nodded. He knew he couldn’t -or shouldn’t- let Oliver eat with him every time, but it was the first time, and he didn’t see why not. He could, technically, do whatever he wanted after all.

Oliver returned his smile, keeping his expression and reaction as reasonable as he could possibly make it. He didn’t want to seem like a child in front of his king, or any younger than he was. “…thank you.”, he said softly, following behind him, “Where should I sit?”

“Sit at my right side.”, Markus replied. He was pretty sure the left side was reserved for a lover or some sort, since it was the side where the heart resided. Though he just wanted Oliver close to him, so they could talk. He would love to get to know Oliver a little more.

“That’s good. I hope they treated you well.”, Markus said and smiled lightly. He tried to make sure all servants treated everyone with respect and kindness, just like he treated them as well. As kind and respectful as he could.

“You are allowed to get dinner while I eat as well, if you would like to, or at a later time.”, he told Oliver then. He didn’t mind if Oliver wasn’t there with him during dinner.

Oliver nodded. They had treated him kindly and hadn’t minded that it was only his first day in the castle. He was glad to be there.

“I would like to have dinner now, thank you.”, he told him, opening the door for him. Oliver was hungry and he wanted to have at least one meal at court.

Markus smiled and nodded. “Would you like to stay with me to eat?”, he asked, mostly because no one could tell him Oliver wouldn’t be allowed to. Markus was usually pretty lonely otherwise, and he wouldn’t mind if Oliver stayed with him, instead of going into the kitchen.

Markus made his way to the study, thinking to himself -and honestly having forgotten about having Oliver here now. It was not something he had ever had, so he forgot he had a personal servant after a an hour or two talking about something else entirely.

So he asked for the one person who always helped him study and settled in the room in his chair. Another few hours to spend sitting around and talking, though this time Markus had to only listen, ask questions, and answer questions.

Oliver knocked on the door to Markus’s study. It was time for dinner and someone else had asked him to retrieve him. He hadn’t been asked for during the entire day; instead, he had been helping a few of the other people in the castle when nobody else was available.

“Your majesty? It’s time for dinner.”, he told him, stepping inside. He glanced around the room, looking at the lavishly decorated study as if he hadn’t seen anything like it before. The study in his family’s home had been locked for years; he barely remembered what it looked like.

Markus was incredibly glad when they were done studying and could relax. Though when he heard Oliver, he sighed softly. Right, dinner. At least he got time for himself after, since he had gone through the studying of the day.

“I’m coming.”, Markus replied and stood up, smoothing his hands over his clothes, before following Oliver.
“How has your day been?”, he asked, wondering what Oliver had done today.

“I hope so as well. Thank you.”, Markus smiled lightly at Oliver, before making his way over to the room, knocking before entering. He was glad he had gotten some rest before this, it’d keep him calm and make it easier to be strong.

He hoped nothing was going to stress him too much. It happened sometimes, that he couldn’t take it anymore and had to leave the meeting to be alone somewhere and calm down. He was always unhappy about that, because he was supposed to be strong, and a king, and not a child.

Oliver returned his smile before turning around a corner towards the gardens. It was a sunny day, even though it was supposed to be colder than it was. He figured that he should enjoy the beautiful gardens before the plants were covered by the snow of winter.

He noticed a few couples walking in the gardens while he wandered around. Other courtiers, most likely; anyone else wouldn’t have been allowed inside the castle. Many of the plants looked foreign, or at least Oliver hadn’t seen them before.

The meeting was, thankfully, not all that exhausting for Markus. He always had a lot of opinions about things, just like questions, so it still dragged on quite a bit, but thankfully not as long as it could have. They were done well before dinner, thankfully.

Markus really didn’t feel like studying, since it meant having to have someone read it all to him, or retell in their own words, since he couldn’t read by himself with his eyes like this.

“Escort me to the room. And then you’ll have free time until the meeting is over.”, Markus clarified, walking to the door and pulling it open once more. He was aware he had to lead Oliver to important rooms until he remembered on his own where they were, though he didn’t really mind who escorted who.

“If the meeting goes on until dinner, it has to wait until the meeting is over.”, he told Oliver then as well, just to make sure he wouldn’t come to try and get him.

Oliver nodded. The orders made plenty of sense, although he was uncertain what he would spend his free time doing. It wasn’t as if he had any friends at court yet. Maybe he could get lost in one of the books that had been provided in his room. There were worse ways to spend time.

“It shouldn’t, unless there is a lot to speak of.”, he informed him. It was at least a few hours until dinner, so he didn’t expect the meeting to continue through the meal.

“You can never know.”, Markus replied and sighed. With his inexperience and many questions, these meetings could sometimes take forever. He just hoped it wasn’t anything big and important they had to talk about, or any huge discussion. He hated those, they dragged on forever and he often didn’t understand half of it.

He wasn’t sure if he should tell Oliver things he could do in his own time. He surely could figure something out on his own, he had the freedom to do pretty much anything he’d like after all. Go to the library, get food, talk with other servants, enjoy the gardens… He would prefer going outside than the meeting.
